What are Combatives?
Per U.S. Army FM 3-25.150 Combatives:
1-1. Hand-to-hand combat — Hand-to-hand combat is an engagement, between two or more persons, with or without hand-held weapons, such as knives, sticks, or projectile weapons within the range of physical contact.
1-2. Combatives — Combatives are the techniques and tactics useful to Soldiers involved in Hand-to-hand combat. Proficiency in Combatives is one of the fundamental building blocks for training the modern Soldier.
Dynamic Combatives
Hand to hand combat has not changed much for the past few hundred years. The human body has grown larger but the movements and capabilities have not. Technology has progressed in amazing ways over the same time period. The items we place in the hand have changed the way we must move our bodies when in contact range of our opponent.
Militaries (Army, Marines, Navy & Air Force) and Paramilitaries (Police, SWAT & PMC) have developed tactics for Close Quarter Combat (CQC). These combatives incorporate fighting techniques from conventional martial arts (Karate, Jujitsu etc.) and combat sports (MMA).
The major difference between Combatives and Traditional Martial Arts is combative fighting systems do not have a sport application. The techniques focused on quick and simple victory in a modern melee situation with or without hand-held weapons. The weapons focus is on the weapons most likely to be encounter in the execution of their position.
Dynamic Combatives is based on simple drills that through repetition help you memorize and master the techniques needed for CQC survival. Our foundation is Bujinkan Ninjitsu with current military and paramilitary weapons tactics.
Why teach Combatives?
The Bujinkan Ninjitsu is a Koryu basin on Japanese society before 1876. Dynamic Combatives are based on today’s American society and warzones. After many years of training with Military and Law Enforcement students I needed to simplify the 9 ryuha and combine current CQC/LEO tactics into a simple effective system. The weapons emphasis moved from ancient weapons like Katana (sword), Yari (spear)and Yumi(bow) and moved to Assault rifle, handgun, baton and knife. While the training has shifted to the military and paramilitary student the techniques have a powerful civilian street application.
